"DUMB" Luck
So, on Thursday afternoon I had an incredibly tramatic moment. At around 4:30pm a manhole cover less than a block away from the studio shot a huge fireball out of it. There was a crazy electrical explosion under the street. It sounded like a stick of dynomite had blown up. Needless to say, this totally freaked the dogs out, who were at the studio (Adobe and Mark's dog Lola). We had been working outside fixing our windows the daybefore and Thursday as well. Being outside still, after the explosion, working way, I was unaware at how freaked the dogs were. At about 5:45 I went around the corner to get coffee for us. Walking back from the corner Pizzaria with the coffees I saw Mark go inside the front door of our studio building while at the same time heard some weird barking. I then saw a brown dog limping towards the corner. THAT WAS WHEN IT HIT ME THAT IT WAS ADOBE!!!!! I freaked out, because I had realized that she had jumped out of one of our second story studio windows. It was the only window where the screen was not pulled down. She was extremely dazed and in a bit of shock. She had a few minor cuts and really was limping on her front leg, but there was no apparent break, that I could tell.
We ended up bringing her to the emergency vet since her "wrist" swelled up and she spent the night there getting x-rayed and having other tests done. In the end she is one lucky, tough old bitch of a dog. Considering that she is almost 11 years old and leaped 15ft out the window to land on the concrete sidewalk, she managed to only limp away with some cuts and bruses and a super spained limb. No broken bones, no internal bleeding, no punctured lungs, I feel extremely blessed to have her still. I haven't yet slept well since the accident, maybe an hour on Thursday night and a few more last night, I am a bit punchy but happy to have my baby OK. Now I just have a few weeks of carrying her downstairs to go to the bathroom.
